Despite the film's mixed critical reception, Khan received positive reviews for her performance and a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut nomination. She subsequently appeared in Ghajini (2008), a commercial success, and Housefull (2010), a comedy.

Death and Controversy:

Jiah Khan died on June 3, 2013, in Mumbai. Her death was initially ruled as a suicide. However, her mother Rabiya Amin alleged that it was a homicide and filed a case against Sooraj Pancholi, Khan's boyfriend at the time, accusing him of abetment to suicide. The case became highly publicized and controversial.

The investigation into her death faced numerous twists and turns, with conflicting forensic reports and allegations. In April 2023, a special CBI court acquitted Sooraj Pancholi of abetment to suicide, citing lack of evidence. The court stated that Jiah Khan's death was indeed a suicide. Jiah Khan's mother continues to contest this ruling.
